Conversations with the Mother on the subject of flowers in particular and Nature more generally form the first new title introduced in this issue. Throb of Nature is a compilation of the author’s notes jotted down from his conversations with the Mother. While explaining the significance of a flower, the Mother told the author:
In Sri Aurobindo's Commentaries on Krishna, Buddha, Christ and Ramakrishna the author brings together comments made by Sri Aurobindo – in his major works and in his letters to disciples – as well as a few comments by the Mother, on the lives of these avatars and their particular roles in advancing the evolution of humanity. Sri Aurobindo saw all four as messengers who came to earth with a special mission. The author contends that if one closely follows Sri Aurobindo’s commentaries, one realises that “his ultimate purpose is to reveal the original, unifying Vedantic truth behind the Avatars’ messages”. Reading about the Mother’s life and her work is always an absorbing experience, and this collection of essays on that subject, Mirra Alfassa—The Mother, provides information on the Mother’s early life and education, her cultural background and training as an artist, her literary and artistic works, her ground-breaking ideas on education, and, most importantly, her spiritual collaboration with Sri Aurobindo. The remaining four books in English introduced below are all centred on Sri Aurobindo’s epic poem Savitri. The English of Savitri: Volume 5 (Book Two – The Book of the Traveller of the Worlds) Part One: Cantos One to Four is the latest volume in the series based on the transcripts of classes held at Savitri Bhavan. The book explores two questions inspired by the title of Book Two: “Who is the traveller?” and “What and where are these worlds?” The author studies line by line the first four cantos of Book Two, explaining sentence structure, imagery, and the meanings of certain words. Sri Aurobindo's Savitri: An Apocalyptic Literature examines those aspects of the poem based on the concept of revelatory visions of the future of mankind. The author defines the genre of apocalyptic literature and its mystic or spiritual basis, and Savitri as an Indian illustration of the genre. The paintings on Savitri made by Huta under the Mother’s guidance represent several years of collaborative work and are being republished in four new volumes. The Mother named these paintings Meditations on Savitri. The most recent books, Volume II (Book Two: The Book of the Traveller of the Worlds, Book Three: The Book of the Divine Mother) and Volume III (Books Four to Seven), are introduced in this issue. The Mother and Huta meditated together on lines chosen from Sri Aurobindo's Savitri, and then the Mother described her visions to Huta, often sketching a brief outline, and Huta completed the work in her studio as an oil painting. Here is a painting from Volume III of Meditations on Savitri.

Each chapter begins with the picture of a flower with the significance given by the Mother, along with her comment. In these conversations the Mother reveals her identity with the powers and forces of universal Nature, how to communicate in joy and harmony with this subtle world, and the ways in which she used flowers to transmit to her disciples the vibrations and spiritual qualities carried by each flower.

In this short work, the author studies the various statements and commentaries made by Sri Aurobindo, and a few by the Mother, on the life and work of these Avatars of the past. The interpretations revealed in these commentaries indicate that he saw all four as messengers who came to earth with a special mission, to support and accelerate the evolution of humanity in a particular way. The chapters discuss what Sri Aurobindo has written in his major works and in his letters to disciples on each of the four Avatars, beginning with Krishna, who played a significant part in Sri Aurobindo’s own sadhana. Comments by the Mother shed additional light on these subjects.
