A Tamil translation of The Viziers of Bassora, a romantic comedy written by Sri Aurobindo while in Baroda. Its plot is based on a story told in the Arabian Nights, “Nur al-Din Ali and the Damsel Anis al-Jalis”. The play centers on the contrasting personalities of the two viziers – the sinful Almuene and the virtuous Alfazzal, and their sons – Fareed and Nureddene, respectively. The sons take after the fathers, and many political and romantic intrigues follow these central figures until the Caliph intervenes to restore justice and unite the young lovers, Nureddene and the Persian slave girl Anice-Aljalice.
